Mental health matters so it’s important to recognize some of the signs you are needing a mental health day. Some signs include feeling overwhelmed, sad, anxious, or irritable. If you are sleeping too much or not enough, it can be a sign something is off. If you are having physical symptoms such as headaches, fatigue, or rounds of illness, it might be your body’s way of saying to stop, pause, and take a break.
We often overlook our mental health. We live in an era where it is go, go, go. There are always tasks to be completed and lists to check off. When we are constantly going and not taking the time to check in with our mind and body, it eventually catches up to us.
It is okay to take care of yourself. It’s actually needed. We will sometimes down a soda for a caffeine-kick instead of taking a nap when we are feeling fatigued because we don’t feel productive unless we get everything finished. If you notice yourself feeling overwhelmed by things or activities that used to bring you joy don’t help with sadness, you may benefit from a mental health day.
Your mental wellbeing is just as important as you physical health, social life, or spirituality. Take the time to check in with yourself and truly give yourself what you are needing.
