Activating the Parasympathetic Nervous System

Activating the parasympathetic nervous system removes us from the fight, flight, or freeze response. It lets us focus on being here and now and to tell our minds and bodies we’re safe. When we take the time to do something we enjoy, deep breath, or meditate, we are allowing ourselves to relax. When we work at activating the parasympathetic nervous system, it’s not always going to be easy, especially if there has been trauma involved or there is a full out trigger happening. The more we practice activating it, the easier it becomes. Remember, anything new takes practice and patience. Be kind to yourself while you learn.
