What is Adenomyosis?
Adenomyosis is a medical condition where the inner lining of the uterus breaks through the muscles wall of the uterus. It causes endometrial tissue to grow into the muscular wall. The uterus becomes enlarged and painful. Symptoms include heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding, severe cramps, pelvic pain, and bloating.
While the cause of adenomyosis is unknown, it has been linked to hormonal imbalances and inflammation. Common treatment options for it range from pain management through medications to surgical intervention. Less common options include herbs and supplements to help combat inflammation in the body and to lessen the amount of pain adenomyosis causes.
Herbs and Supplements
Curcumin
Curcumin helps to relieve inflammation in the body. It is a compound found in turmeric. Curcumin also helps to regulate oxidative stress in the body, further helping with inflammation. The antioxidant effects help protect the body’s cells from damage caused by free radicals. The plant may also lighten periods and lower pain.
Zinc
Zinc may help to reduce inflammation and pain. It may also work as an antioxidant, providing protection against oxidative stress in the body.
Magnesium
Magnesium may help by relaxing the smooth muscle of the uterus and gastrointestinal tract. It may be taken to ease painful cramps. Magnesium also helps to reduce prostaglandins that cause period pain.
Ginger
Ginger has strong anti-inflammatory properties. It reduces inflammation in the body that may be responsible for causing adenomyosis. It also has antioxidants and helps to keep the uterus functioning properly.
As with any new herb or supplement, make sure to check with a healthcare professional before adding them to your diet.
