Grounding Techniques

Grounding techniques help to keep a person in the here and now. When we are feeling overwhelmed, overstimulated, or stressed, we can take the time to find things that appeal to our senses to ground us. Look around you and focus on five things in your vision. Touch four items around you. Listen to what’s around you and focus on three of these things. Try to smell two things around you. Lastly, if possible, taste something that is within your immediate environment.
