There are healthful practices for emotions. We often deal with difficult emotions, but we don’t always know how to process them. Letting go of these emotions is helpful instead of holding on to them and them holding you prisoner. Some emotions caused by traumatic events, loss, or heartbreak may be too hard to let go of, so instead, it is healthy to learn how to find ways to accept what you’re feeling and to sit with the emotions instead of reacting and hurting others.
When we can understand what we are feeling and communicate our needs, we are nurturing our whole selves. It allows us to heal ourselves emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually. It opens us up and empowers us to be the best person we are capable of being.
Spending time doing activities that are either contemplative or allow us some form of movement may help us to process our emotions. Doing certain activities will allow us to strengthen parts of our brains that typically lash out when triggered. These include mindfulness meditation, free writing, and breathwork. These items teach us how to remain calm when under pressure and can be done just about anywhere.
