Reiki precepts, also known as the Five Reiki Principles or Five Reiki Precepts, are a set of guiding principles or ethical guidelines in the practice of Reiki, a form of alternative healing therapy that originated in Japan. These principles are intended to promote personal and spiritual growth, as well as to foster a sense of balance and harmony in one’s life. Reiki is believed to be a system of energy healing, and these precepts provide a moral and ethical framework for practitioners to follow. The precepts are often recited as part of a daily ritual in Reiki practice.

The five Reiki precepts are typically stated as follows:

  1. Just for today, I will not be angry.
    • This principle encourages practitioners to let go of anger and work on maintaining a calm and peaceful state of mind.
  2. Just for today, I will not worry.
    • This precept emphasizes the importance of living in the present moment and not dwelling on unnecessary anxieties or concerns about the future.
  3. Just for today, I will be grateful.
    • Gratitude is a central theme in Reiki. Practitioners are encouraged to cultivate a sense of appreciation for the blessings in their lives.
  4. Just for today, I will do my work honestly.
    • This principle emphasizes the importance of acting with integrity, being honest in your dealings, and doing your work with diligence and sincerity.
  5. Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing.
    • This precept promotes kindness, compassion, and empathy toward all living beings, including animals, plants, and people.

The Reiki precepts serve as a daily affirmation and reminder for practitioners to live mindfully and in accordance with these principles. By following these guidelines, individuals aim to improve their overall well-being, reduce stress, and create a positive and harmonious environment both within themselves and in their interactions with others. While Reiki precepts are a fundamental aspect of Reiki practice, it’s essential to remember that they are not a strict code of conduct, but rather a set of principles that can guide one’s personal and spiritual development.
