Thyme

Thyme is an herb with health benefit properties. Thyme may help to prevent bacterial and fungal infections. It has volatile oils, phenols, thymol, and carvacol, that work as antitussive, antispasmodic, and expectorant. These components helps to alleviate coughing. The rosmarinic acid compound found in thyme helps to lower blood pressure and to reduce inflammation. Thymol also works as an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial and because it does, it helps to boost immunity. Carvacol increases serotonin and dopamine, two chemicals which help to boost our mood.

Thyme can be added into foods, such as eggs, chicken, and stews, to incorporate it into nutrition. It’s also available as a tea. Thyme as an essential oil is commonly used in aromatherapy. Thyme’s numerous benefits make it a good herb to include for a healthy lifestyle.

Some people think thyme tastes like a mix of mint and basil, others say it has a slightly bitter taste. But I think it’s a great flavor to use as a flavor enhancer in salads and as a garnish on pizza.
