Metacognition

Metacognition allows us to become aware of how we process thoughts. When we understanding how we process things, it opens doors to help us heal our minds and traumas.

Metacognition helps us to learn self-regulation. Self-regulating is when we have the ability to monitor and manage our own emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. As we understand how our minds work, it lets us find out what helps us to stay calm, to express our emotions safely, and to move forward. Sometimes when bad things happen, our minds want to blame ourselves, self-criticize, and put ourselves down. This actually gets us stuck in negative mind frame. When we see our reaction is to do these things through metacognition, we can change those patterns and find proper ways to self-regulate.
